Hartford, CT — Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodríguez, former superintendent of Hartford Public Schools, retired after years of dedicated service marked by measurable progress in student success and opportunity. To honor her legacy, the district partnered with Revilla Films to produce a farewell video highlighting her journey and the accomplishments achieved during her tenure.
Under Dr. Torres-Rodríguez’s leadership, Hartford Public Schools saw its four-year graduation rate increase by 10 percent, reflecting a stronger pathway for students toward higher education and careers. Even more notably, the graduation rate for students whose first language is not English rose by 17 percent, a testament to her commitment to equity and ensuring all students had access to the resources they needed to succeed.
Beyond graduation outcomes, Dr. Torres-Rodríguez championed the expansion of learning pathways—programs designed to equip students with the skills necessary for college, careers, and life beyond the classroom. These pathways gave students hands-on learning experiences and helped bridge the gap between academics and real-world opportunities.
In her farewell message, Dr. Torres-Rodríguez expressed gratitude to the Hartford Board of Education, recognizing that the district’s progress was possible thanks to their “leadership and shared governance.”
“This progress belongs to all of us—the Board of Education, our educators, families, community partners, and most importantly, our beautiful and capable students,” said Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodríguez.
As she steps down, her legacy remains firmly rooted in measurable student growth, expanded opportunities, and a commitment to equity that has reshaped Hartford Public Schools for years to come.
